The Challenge
KW Bell Group’s Bell Contracting division operates a fleet of more than 250 machines, including 95 excavators and 75 dumpers, serving major housebuilders across the UK. Rising fuel costs and client demands for reduced CO₂ emissions led Managing Director Peter Bell to seek a proven solution.
At the same time, downtime remained a major concern. Sensitive Stage V engines require clean fuel, yet construction sites often expose equipment to water, dirt, and diesel bug contamination, threatening reliability and increasing costs.
The Solution
Peter Bell first heard about FuelActive from Simon Tomblin at Rocket Rentals, a satisfied customer. Following an on-site demonstration, Bell Contracting piloted FuelActive on a batch of Stage V excavators, achieving CO₂ savings of 5.7%.
Encouraged by these results, Bell rolled out FuelActive across 50 of its 95 excavators, with a commitment to fit the system to all new machines going forward. Installation took under an hour per unit, with no impact on engine warranty.
